Metabolic testing measures the gases you breathe in and out (oxygen consumed, carbon dioxide produced) to quantify how your body produces energy. From that data we derive VO2 max, resting metabolic rate, fat- and carbohydrate-oxidation rates, ventilatory thresholds, and your true training zones.
Endurance athletes (runners, cyclists, triathletes, rowers), strength athletes wanting to improve conditioning, anyone optimizing body composition or fueling, and people focused on longevity — VO2 max is the single strongest predictor of all-cause mortality.
For VO2 max testing: arrive well-rested, fed 2–3 hours before, hydrated, and avoid hard training in the 24 hours prior. For RMR testing: 12-hour fast, no caffeine, and no exercise that morning. We send a full prep guide after booking.
RMR is about 30 minutes including setup. VO2 max is 45–60 minutes. The Full Performance Profile runs 90 minutes plus a follow-up consultation.
We use the Cosmed Q-NRG Max — a clinical-grade metabolic cart used in hospitals and Olympic training centers — and INSCYD's metabolic profiling platform for analysis.
No. The protocol is graded — it starts easy and progresses until you choose to stop. We test everyone from beginners to elite competitors.
A written report with your VO2 max, threshold heart-rate and power/pace zones, fat- and carb-oxidation curves, INSCYD performance metrics, and a personalized recommendations document.
Most athletes retest every 3–6 months to track progress and refine zones as fitness changes. Longevity clients typically retest annually.
